Infertility Issues for Men

For most men, a diagnosis of infertility, whether for you or your spouse, brings up numerous complex issues. If you have been diagnosed:

  • Was a deficiency in sperm a possibility that never crossed your mind?
  • Are you worried that you are disappointing your partner?
  • Are you irrationally questioning your manhood?
  • Is the idea of donor sperm making you angry, or leading you to think irrationally?

Feelings of powerlessness and helplessness may also arise if your spouse has been diagnosed as infertile.

  • How do you deal with the sadness in her?
  • How do you tolerate feeling helpless? Feeling helpless can be extremely difficult to tolerate and complicate feelings of anger or depression.

Therapy can help by providing a safe place to articulate your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs regarding infertility. It can also assist you in making sense of some of the more complex emotional issues that may arise.
